VA PROGRAM SALUTES VETERANS IN HOSPITAL
The Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem will sponsor a "Salute to Hospitalized Veterans" on Feb. 14.The program is part of a nationwide effort to recognize the more than 1 million veterans who will enter VA medical facilities this year.
"The salute gives all citizens the chance to let hospitalized veterans know they are not forgotten," said Clark Graninger, director of the Salem center. "We've invited local celebrities and schoolchildren to visit the patients, and we'd like to have local people of all ages out to spread a little cheer."
This year's salute features Roanoke Mayor Noel Taylor, Miss Virginia Sheri Huffman, the dance group "Sizzle," the Kazim Temple Clowns and Tramps, and radio hosts Bill Bratton and Leah Brandon of WFIR/WPVR.
It begins at 1:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Building 5.
