TREE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM OFFERED
A federal Tree Assistance Program will assist tree growers who lost trees to natural disasters in 1990 and 1991. Terry Altizer, executive director of Montgomery County's Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, said the program will reimburse eligible small- and medium-scale commercial growers for a portion of their losses to orchards and tree stands because of drought or freeze.To qualify, a grower's loss on an individual stand of trees must have been greater than 35 percent after adjustment for normal mortality.
