WILDLIFE REHABILITATION WORKSHOP PLANNED

The Science Museum of Western Virginia will host a wildlife rehabilitation workshop, "Hand-raising Orphaned Wild Birds and Mammals," on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

Sponsored by the Wildlife Center of Virginia, the work shop will be taught by Dr. Stuart Porter, director of veterinary services at the Wildlife Center. The program will include instruction on what constitutes a wildlife orphan, the danger of taming animals, the effects of imprinting, legal restrictions, housing and diet, as well as methods of release to the wild, diseases and vaccinations.

The workshop will focus hand-raising and care of rabbits and other small mammals, songbirds, raptors and other birds. The cost is $30. To register, call the Wildlife Center at 234-WILD.
