TAX DOLLARS AT WORK ON FRANKLIN ROAD
AS A TAX-PAYING citizen who lives in Old Southwest and works in downtown Roanoke, I walk to work each day, rain or shine. I am observing with great interest (and confusion) the widening-of-Franklin Road project. At certain times, I have walked on muddy sidewalks, through "Arizona dust storms" created by some sort of sidewalk sweeper, and often have walked in with the traffic, since the sidewalks were blocked by equipment.
I have been watching, with great enjoyment I might add, the digging of a hole at Elm and Franklin, then the filling back up of this hole. Then again, the same hole being dug out and refilled. And now for the third time, the same hole being dug out. No doubt to be filled up again in a day or so. And it looked like a perfectly good hole to me the first time.
It's always good to see my tax dollars at work. PAT NASH ROANOKE
