FIRST, TEACH DEFENSE, REBOUNDING
To Doug Doughty:While I appreciate the fact that you have finally given UVa's basketball team a little coverage, I hardly agree with your assessment.
It would seem obvious that you dislike that fact that Jeff Jones has chosen to follow in the footsteps of his mentor, Terry Holland, and teach his teams to rebound and play sound defense before turning them loose to run mindlessly up and down the floor. Likewise, you have chosen to ignore the fact that few teams in the ACC have been successful when they start two freshmen and play a third frequently. And yes, Jones is right that UVa has nothing that resembles an inside attack (0-for-life against Clemson in the paint); he needs to recruit a big man badly.
I seem to remember a team of talented freshmen coached by a bright young coach a few years back down in Durham [N.C.]. They got their ears pinned back pretty well by most of the other ACC teams, and a UVa team with a great point guard, an All-America center and some good shooters who beat them like a drum in the ACC Tournament. The bright, young coach taught them the fundamentals of tough defense and rebounding, and he recruited well. Some misguided wordsmith probably thought Coach K's future was dim, too.
