RACCOON BILL FAILED TO GET SUPPORT
A bill to established an Aug. 1-May 31 raccoon chase season in Western Virginia failed to make it out of the House Conservation and Natural Resources Committee. The measure, introduced by Del. Jackie Stump of Russell County, has deferred to the 1993 General Assembly.The season, advocated by organized coon hunters in Southwest Virginia, is scheduled to be discussed in March during a public hearing of the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
Other measures carried over include a bill that would prohibit deer hunting with dogs; a bill that would allow youngsters to operate personal watercraft and a bill that would require hunters to buy a $2 damage stamp.
