ROANOKE CEMENT TO VOTE ON CONTRACT
Nearly 160 union employees of Roanoke Cement Co. in Botetourt County will take a second vote today on a company contract proposal that last month was rejected by a large majority.Members of Local D-314 of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers will vote on a contract offering a pay increase of $2 an hour in the first 18 months.
The union members initially turned down the contract because they opposed the company's plan to shift insurance payments to employees and retired workers, according to Jeffrey Stump, local president.
