HALES, HARVEY L., SR.Harvey Lester Hales Sr. of 3707 Pollock's Way, Wilmington, N.C., died Monday, February 10, 1992, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born in Johnston County, North Carolina on May 8, 1918, the son of the late James Bryant and Croina Weaver Hales. Mr. Hales was a member of Grace Baptist Church and had retired as an insulation contractor. He was a member of the Western Masonic Lodge of Portsmouth, Va., the Kazim Temple of the Scottish Rite Bodies, and a member of the Shrine. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Esther H. Hales of the home; four sons Melvin Hales, Duke Hales, and Donnie Hales, all of Greensboro, N.C.; Harvey L. Hales Jr. of Wilmington, N.C.; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Atkinson of Wilson, N.C.; also 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 13, 1992, at 12:00 noon in the Shenandoah Baptist Church, Roanoke, Va., by Dr. Robert Alderman and the Rev. Jim Herchenhahn. Interment will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Park, Roanoke, Va. Memorials may be made to the Shenandoah Baptist Church, Roanoke, Va. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Funeral Home, North Chapel, 6732 Peters Creek Road, on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00.
