Salem jumped out to a 19-8 first-quarter lead and went on to a 73-51 victory over Radford in a non-district boys' basketball game Monday night.

Josh Pugh paced the Spartans (7-8) with a game-high 22 points and Garrett Jones led Radford with 13.

Stuart Hall 23

Stuart Hall played Roanoke Catholic close in the opening minutes of the first quarter, but the Celtics gradually pulled away.

Shannon Simpson and Jackie Hinman had 18 points each for the Celtics (13-3 overall, 9-3 Virginia Independent). Simpson also had 10 rebounds. \

LYNCHBURG - The Raiders had no trouble in knocking off Virginia Episcopal. Heather Perry led the way with 14 points. Freshman Emily Cook, Kelly Baetz and Christina Nordt added 10. Baetz had 12 rebounds and Cook grabbed nine.

Amy Athey scored 17 points to lead the well-balanced Knights easily defeat the visiting Colonels (11-6, 3-6) in the Roanoke Valley District.

Cave Spring (17-1, 10-0), bounced back from its first loss of the season to GW-Danville on Saturday. Kim Stewart added 10 points and eight assists. Kelly Dierker grabbed 10 rebounds. \
