NEWSPAPER GIVES ALL THE NEWS
AFTER MY father died, my mother came to live with me. One of her daily chores was to get the morning paper from the porch. She would get it, go into her room, sit in her easy chair and read it by the window.I often wondered why it took her so long to read the news. She told me, "I read all the news." She never liked to watch the TV news. She said she got more news from reading than by watching.
She was right. TV news is OK, but the depth of the news is in the writing by the reporter. News, good or bad, the paper tells all about it.
Since the morning paper is now the only paper, I find I am following in her footsteps. I get the paper at first light and retreat to my easy chair and read until I get hungry.
Except for the classified, I read all the news. Thank you for all the good reporting and the photographs. THELMA B. EVANS ROANOKE
