PHOTO LAB CASE TANGLED IN DISPUTE OVER HEARING SITE
Lawyers skirmished Tuesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Roanoke over the issue of transferring the liquidation case of Nolan Jackson, former chairman of Photo Lab USA, and his wife, Lois Jackson, from Miami to Roanoke.Judge Ross Krumm denied a motion of creditor banks to move the case and the Jacksons' request to dismiss the banks' case in Roanoke. The couple, formerly of Roanoke, now live in Florida.
The judge ordered the Jacksons to respond to an involuntary liquidation case filed against them in Roanoke. The couple later filed their own petition for liquidation in Florida.
Paul Black, a lawyer for Central Fidelity Bank, a major creditor, said he will ask Krumm today to hold up action in both cases until the judge decides which case will go forward in court.
Black said Central Fidelity will do what it can to recover its $1.6 million loan from the Jacksons. Salem Bank and Trust and the First National Bank of Christiansburg have smaller claims against the pair. Photo Lab is in reorganization; two other former officers of the company have filed for liquidation. - Staff report
