OLYMPICS OPENING CEREMONIES HAD FEWER TV VIEWERS THAN '88
Television ratings for the Winter Olympics opening ceremonies on CBS were down 6.5 percent from the opening of the 1988 Winter Games.CBS, broadcasting its first Olympics since 1960, got a 15.9 overnight rating and a 26 share for Saturday night's ceremonies at Albertville, France, the network said Sunday.
Four years ago, ABC got a 17 overnight rating and a 40 share for its live mid-afternoon broadcast of opening ceremonies in Calgary, Canada.
That was down from a 19 rating and a 29 share for the opening ceremonies of the 1984 Winter Games at Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, by ABC.
The rating is the percentage of televisions in the United States and each point represents 921,000 homes. The share is the percentage of televisions on at the time.
