ELDERLY WOMEN BOUND, ROBBED IN HOME

Two elderly women were tied up and robbed in their home late Tuesday night, The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office reported Wednesday. Their dog, tied in the yard, was stabbed.

Lt. Tom Roseberry said Birdie Burton, 78, suffered a superficial gunshot wound to an upper arm but did not seek medical treatment. The other woman, Frances Snider, 69, was not hurt. The dog apparently survived, he said.

Roseberry said two men, one armed with a gun and another with a knife, came to the home about 11 p.m. claiming to be with the sheriff's office and needing to use the phone because of an accident.

The women refused to let the men enter, but they forced their way into the home and tied up the women. They took a small amount of cash and several weapons.

The women were held for a couple of hours, Roseberry said. The men left in a car owned by one of the women. The car was found Wednesday morning about 2 miles from the residence. Roseberry said police believe the men had another vehicle waiting for them.

Roseberry said there were no leads Wednesday afternoon as they were able to obtain only vague descriptions of the men.
