MUST U.S. AID EACH NEW INDEPENDENT?

WITH A FAILING economy, is it America's responsibility to furnish enormous amounts of foreign aid to every country that declares independence?

Are we responsible for Russia's past leadership's failure to support the agricultural and medical needs of the people? Instead this military power aspired to rule the world.

Actually, there was a power struggle between the United States and Russia. Each nation continued to increase its military machine to the point that they failed to recognize the consequences. You are seeing the results of this ideology now.

However, the Soviet Union used its strength to suppress the freedoms of its own people, which is entirely different from America's military intentions.

Is it possible that we are entering a crisis in our own country? Anytime the leadership of a nation refuses to listen to the will of the people and fails to recognize or examine the signs of the times, this can produce disastrous results. WILLIAM D. STALLARD ROANOKE
