ROANOKE BOWLER ROLLS PERFECT GAME
Bruce Kelly knows adjustments are part of bowling, but Friday night he made one that paid off in a big way. After meandering through games of 155 and 151, he started throwing over the first arrow instead of the second to accommodate a bigger break in his ball. That resulted in a 300 game at Hill Top Lanes.
It was Kelly's first 300, and he's been bowling in league competition since he was 6 years old. Now 33, the Roanoke truck driver was as surprised by his sudden success as one might expect.
"You got me," said Kelly when asked about his change in fortune. "I just moved over further and said I was going to beat that 151."
Kelly carries a 179 average in the Star City League on Friday nights and bowls in two other leagues during the week. His previous high game was 287 in 1984. - Staff report
