GILES, LAWRENCE J., JR.Lawrence James Giles, Jr. (Joe), age 83, died Friday, February 14, 1992. He was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church and was instrumental in setting up its endowment fund. He was a member of the Virginia State Bar for 59 years and a member of the Roanoke Bar Association since 1946. He retired as assistant chief attorney from the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Roanoke. He was awarded an Air Medal for his services with a Bomber Squadron based in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post #1841. He is survived by his wife, Adele Crowgey Giles; daughter, Linda and her husband, W. C. Poole, Jr.; grandson, Brian and his wife, Sherry, Houston, Texas; daughter, Patricia and her husband, the Rev. M. E. Hinds, Jr.; granddaughters, Heather, Rebekah and Christina, all of New Orleans. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kimberly Poole. Also surviving are two sisters, Kathleen Herlick, Alexandria; Lee Brighton, Salt Lake City, Utah. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 17, at St. John Cemetery, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Bradley Phillips officiating, assisted by the Rev. Hinds. The family will receive friends at Oakey's North Chapel from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Friends and family are invited to visit the family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Crowgey, Jr., 485 Church St., Wytheville, after the service until 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made to the Huntington Court United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, the Roanoke County Rescue Squad #5 or the Fincastle Emergency Squad.
