NON-GAME FUNDS TAKING A TUMBLE
Donations to Virginia's non-game and endangered species fund have seen a steady decline since reaching a high of $642,574 in 1987.Last year's contributions totaled $389,018, the lowest since 1982, the year the program began.
Most of the donations come from individuals who contribute a portion of their state tax refund through a check-off system.
The money is used for nongame and endangered species research and management projects.
