PSYCHOLOGISTS OFFER TIPS TO HELP SAVE A MARRIAGE

What does it take for a marriage to overcome infidelity? Here's a list compiled from interviews with several psychologists and marriage and family therapists.

COMMITMENT - Most important. Unless both partners are determined to make the marriage work, it hasn't got a prayer.

COMMUNICATION - Partners must have the ability to talk about the deep hurt and anger caused by the infidelity.

A TRUE VIEW - Partners need a realistic view of what marriage can provide. Partners must give up the Hollywood happily-ever-after idea of romance and marriage.

INDEPENDENCE - Don't expect your partner to be responsible for your happiness.

HARD WORK - Curing problems in a marriage is difficult and painful. It often requires reliving the hurtful incidents in the past that set up the way people handle problems. - COX NEWS SERVICE
