2 GILES MEN CHARGED IN SHOOTING SPREE

Two Giles County men have been arrested in a drive-by shooting spree that did thousands of dollars in damage to several homes Monday night. No one was hurt, but one resident barely missed being shot in the head, county investigator Willie Lucas said.

Giles "Mike" Reynolds, 28, of Rich Creek and Dan Ray Sheets, 23, of Narrows were charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, Lucas said. Both men face additional charges by Pearisburg police for destruction of private property, shooting into an occupied dwelling and discharging a firearm within town limits, town Police Chief Bill Whitsett said.

Local businesses and an automobile were shot at, Whitsett said.

Authorities received complaints from Pembroke, Pearisburg, Rich Creek and Narrows residents about men shooting at homes from a blue four-door car, Lucas said. The shootings started around 6 p.m. and continued until around 8:30.

"There appeared to be no apparent motive," Lucas said. Both men had been drinking, he said.

Reynolds, who is unemployed, and Sheets, a self-employed construction worker, were arrested without incident at their homes at 9 p.m. Authorities took a shotgun and a .22 caliber pistol from them.

Reynolds and Sheets are each being held in the Giles County jail in lieu of $40,000 bonds. A preliminary hearing is set for March 17.

State, county, Pearisburg, Rich Creek and Narrows authorities were involved in the investigation.
