LIBERTY, VMI PLAYERS WIN HONORS
South Florida guard Radenko Dobras headlines the 1991-92 GTE academic All-America District III university division team, which includes two Virginians, picked by sports information directors and announced Tuesday.District III consists of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
Dobras is a computer engineering major with a 3.40 grade-point average and leads the Bulls with an 18.4-point average while dishing out 5.7 assists a game.
Joining Dobras in the backcourt is Furman's David Stamey, a economics major with a 3.48 GPA. Stamey is averaging 11.5 points and 3.0 assists for the Paladins.
Stamey's teammate, Steven Hines, gives Furman two players on the team. Hines has a 3.38 GPA in religion and is averaging eight points and 4.2 rebounds a game.
Liberty's Mike Coleman and VMI's Charlie Petzold join Hines in the frontcourt.
Coleman has a 3.45 GPA in sports management and is averaging 9.4 points and 8.4 rebounds.
Petzold is a civil engineering major with a 3.44 GPA. He is averaging 5.3 points and 6.3 rebounds a game. - Associated Press
