THE QUESTION BOX
When was the last time you had a person of a different race as a guest in your home? What was the occasion?\ Musser: "I had some [black people] over here about a week ago talking about the campaign. The mayor was over here two or three weeks ago to watch a football game. We have him over here for games sometimes. We also invite [black people] to parties that we have. I think they feel comfortable here."
\ Bowers: "I didn't have a Christmas party. . . . I would have to say it was probably at a party at the end of the summer or early spring. I'm trying to think who's been over to help me with my campaign. [City Councilman] Bill White is certainly a close friend of mine and I have a friend who is a black lawyer. But that's the best I can answer. It doesn't really register with me. At my wedding reception [in March], I'm inviting both blacks and whites."
Who mows your yard?
\ Musser: "I do. Sometimes my stepson helps. Because of my leg, I have to use a riding mower." [Musser suffered an injury in the Korean War when a gunshot struck his knee. He still has pain in his knee sometimes and ultimately will have to have more surgery to repair it. He'll have to use crutches and a cane for about 13 weeks when he has the operation. But he said there is no urgency about the surgery, although doctors said he will need it at some point.]
\ Bowers: "I mow my own yard. And I also mow the yards at my family's apartments [which they own as rental property]. I enjoy mowing my yard. Now that I don't get a lot of time to exercise anymore, I always look forward to getting out. That's the kind of exercise I get. In fact, I don't let people mow my yard. I like doing it myself."
