REBELS SNUFF OUT STORM
Mark Woolf scored two goals and the Roanoke Valley defense shut down Toledo as the Rebels shocked the Storm 3-0 in East Coast Hockey League play Tuesday night.Roanoke Valley goalie Mike James had 43 saves to hand the Storm their first shutout loss of the season. It was a league-high third shutout of the season for James, and only the third home loss for Toledo (35-13-2), the ECHL's Western Division leader.
The Rebels (19-27-5) had lost three straight overall, and the win was only their second on the road in 18 decisions since Dec. 2.
"The win was a real feather in our cap," Rebels coach Roy Sommer said. "To beat them in their building - especially a shutout - is a big deal."
Woolf broke a scoreless tie with a goal late in the second period, and Brett Stewart gave the Rebels a 2-0 cushion on a goal early in the third. Stewart also had two assists.
Woolf finished the scoring with an open-net goal.
\ ICE CHIPS: The win put Roanoke Valley six points ahead of Knoxville for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Division with one month to go. . . . The Rebels play at Dayton tonight. \
