PULASKI GRAND JURY DELIVERS CAPITAL MURDER INDICTMENT
The Pulaski County grand jury has issued a capital murder indictment against Darrell Wayne Cumbee, 20, in the death of a 90-year-old man last October.Cumbee, of Pulaski County, is accused of killing William McKinley Largen in his home on Giles Avenue outside Dublin.
A state trooper found Largen's body Oct. 4. He had died from a blow to the head.
At a November preliminary hearing in General District Court, Capt. James A. Davis of the Pulaski Sheriff's office testified that Cumbee told him he had struck Largen while trying to escape from him.
Davis said an ax was found on a nearby dirt road. Cumbee told Davis that Largen had held him at gunpoint for three days in a room in Largen's apartment, Davis testified.
Cumbee had once rented separate quarters on Largen's property but had moved out about six months before Largen was killed.
Cumbee is being held in the Pulaski County jail. A trial date will not be chosen until the May court term.
