TESTS: DOCTOR IS FATHER OF 15
Blood tests show that a doctor charged with fraud is almost certainly the father of 15 children born to his artificial insemination patients, a paternity testing expert testified Wednesday.DNA tests indicated that Cecil Jacobson is 99.99 percent sure to be the father of the children, said Gary M. Stuhlmiller of Roche Biomedical Laboratories in Burlington, N.C.
He said that the tests are never 100 percent conclusive but that the likelihood of finding another man who could have fathered all 15 children is 1 in 28 trillion.
Jacobson is being tried on 52 counts of fraud and perjury. The prosecution has said he is the father of up to 75 children by his patients, but evidence of all those instances has not been introduced.
Stuhlmiller said tests excluded Jacobson as the father of two children. But on the other 15, each DNA test showed a 99.99 percent probability, he said.
The prosecution expects to rest its case today.
