MARINE PFC. BOYD STANLEY, son of James and Judith Stanley of 5808 Santa Anita Terrace, recently completed basic training at Parris Island, S.C.Stanley, a 1991 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, is in infantry training at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS RICKY H. BRATTON, son of George H. and Betty S. Bratton of 4332 Oliver Road N.E., has departed for a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea aboard the aircraft carrier USS America, based in Norfolk.
Bratton is a 1975 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School.
\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT MICHAEL D. HUGHES, son of Roger D. Hughes of 105 Hazlewood Terrace, Vinton, and Virginia Garretson of 2385 Coachman Circle, has completed training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT LARRY W. GARLAND, son of George W. Garland of 3487 Brookrun Drive, has completed training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
\ SGT. DAVID F. McALPIN, son of David F. and Ann C. McAlpin of Troutville, has been named technician of the quarter while serving as a missile maintenance specialist at Minot Air Force Base, N.D.
The selection was based on exemplary job performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, significant self-improvement and other accomplishments.
McAlpin is a 1985 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.
