Employers needed for Older Worker fairThe League of Older Americans is seeking employers to reserve tables at its annual Older Workers Job Fair, scheduled April 24 at Crossroads Mall.
Last year, more than 500 older individuals attended the fair where representatives from 24 companies were present to discuss employment opportunities for older workers.
Hours will be 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Interested employers may call Ron Boyd at 345-0451 to reserve a table.
The league also is accepting nominations for honorees for its second annual Older Workers Recognition and Luncheon. Companies may nominate as many of their workers age 60 and older as they wish to receive the award. There is a $10 fee per applicant.

Marriage enrichment group plans workshop
"Dealing with Differences in Your Relationship" will be the theme of a marriage enrichment workshop March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lewis-Gale Foundation auditorium in Salem.
It will be led by Jim and Ruth Rowles, former Roanokers now of South Boston. The couple are certified leaders in the Association for Couples in Marriage Enrichment, based in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The workshop is free and open to both couples and single adults. Marriage enrichment educates to make stable marriages stronger. It is not a substitute for professional counseling.
Opportunity will be offered at the workshop for couples to enroll in an ongoing enrichment group and to register for weekend retreats April 25 and in mid-October.
Agency plans classes for retarded adults
The Adult Education Program, which teaches skills in daily living to mentally retarded adults, will begin its spring semester Tuesday. Classes will meet at Virginia Western Community College for 10 weeks.
The college, operated by Mental Health Services of the Roanoke Valley in conjunction with Virginia Western's Continuing Education Department, offers classes based on students' needs and interests. Classes offered this semester include You and Others II, Town Travel, Walking Education, Voting Rights, Public Speaking and Social Etiquette.
Teachers for the program are volunteers from colleges and the community. For further information on registration or to volunteer, call Betty Bingham at 342-6003.
Goodwill Industries names officers, board
Goodwill Industries Tinker Mountain Inc. has appointed officers and board members for the 1992 term.
Officers are Clinton S. Morse, president; Murray K. Coulter, vice president; Meg Cook, secretary; and Jim Frantz, treasurer.
Board members are Esther Cain, Ken Dreyer, Al Jones, Warren Cratch, Gregory Feldmann, Grady Gregory, Anne Jennings, Merle King, Richard Kurshan, Samuel B. Long, Lewis Peery, J. Tyler Pugh and Paul Pullen.
Goodwill Industries Tinker Mountain is a non-profit organization serving people with disabilities throughout Southwestern Virginia.
Roanoker becomes new La Leche League leader
Lisa Stoneman Updike recently received accreditation as a La Leche League leader and has begun group meetings.
She is one of five Roanoke-area leaders who are conducting support groups for breast-feeding mothers. She joined La Leche League in 1989.
Updike's group, which also is led by Debbie Hartigan, meets the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton.
Other groups meet the fourth Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church and the first Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m. at Highland Park United Methodist Church. For more information, call 989-9821.
