MATH INSTRUCTOR NAMED TRANSFER PROGRAM HEAD

James L. Durham, who came to Mountain Empire Community College as its first mathematics instructor in 1972, has been named chairman of its Division of Arts and Sciences, which is responsible for all college-transfer programs.

Before coming here, he was a math teacher and department chair at Madera (Calif.) High School.

At Mountain Empire, he has secured funding for and taught a public school recertification program from 1976 through 1986, has started a first-year transfer engineering program with Virginia Tech, and has served as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Virginia.
