WOOD-MOLDING BUSINESS DAMAGED BY FIRE IN FURNACE
A fire caused an estimated $100,000 worth of damage Sunday at a Roanoke County woodworking business, officials said. The blaze at Architectural Wood, 5121 Starkey Road, was sparked by a malfunction in a furnace motor, according to Rodney Ferguson, a county fire investigator.
Firefighters were notified at 7:05 a.m. and arrived in time to keep the blaze contained to the office area, Ferguson said.
One firefighter was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for a minor arm injury and released, Ferguson said.
Bruce Cody, owner of Architectural Wood, said he hoped the fire would not interrupt his company's production of wood moldings. The company has 15 employees.
The building and its contents were insured, Cody said.
