TOP BACK QUALIFIES AT UVA
Running back Lamonte Still, who headed the Roanoke Times & World-News list of the top five football prospects in Virginia, has met Proposition 48 requirements for a Division I grant-in-aid.Still, from Cox High School in Virginia Beach, signed a letter-of-intent earlier this month with Virginia and will be eligible to play for the Cavaliers next season if he keeps his grade-point average at its current level.
Still received results this week from the Scholastic Aptitude Test taken in January and learned he had exceeded the minimum score of 700 required by the NCAA.
"He made it with a lot of room to spare," Cox coach Jim Prince said. "It's a great tribute to Lamonte because there weren't many people who thought he had a chance."
Still set records in the Tidewater area for season rushing yardage (2,036) and rushing yardage in a career (3,913).
"I've never seen one better," said Prince, formerly an assistant at James Madison University.
