3RD VOLLEYBALL PLAYER CHOOSES HOKIES

Virginia Tech increased its total of volleyball signees to three on Monday when Jennifer Schmidt of Eden Prairie, Minn., signed with the Hokies.

Schmidt, a 6-foot middle blocker, was most valuable player on the Eden Prairie High School team that went 22-5 last fall. She will be the tallest player on the Hokies' roster. She chose Tech over Indiana, Bowling Green, Hofstra and Texas-El Paso.

The Hokies, in their first season under coach Stephanie Hawbecker, had their best-ever record last season at 28-12 and finished second in the Metro Conference. - Staff report
