FALSE-PREGNANCY SCHEME IS DENIED
An infertility doctor charged with fraud testified Tuesday that he "didn't have a scheme" to convince women they were pregnant when they weren't."You never set up a false pregnancy," Dr. Cecil Jacobson said. "It's the one thing you are guaranteed to be destroyed with. You would never do anything as dumb as that."
That's precisely what Jacobson, 55, is charged with doing, along with fathering up to 75 children by his artificial-insemination patients while claiming to use an anonymous-donor program. He did not immediately address that issue as he took the stand Tuesday.
Women have testified for the prosecution that Jacobson convinced them as many as eight times they were pregnant, had miscarried, and that their bodies had reabsorbed the fetus.
