AUDIT OF BRISTOL FINDS NO FUNDS MISSING
Preliminary results from a state audit of some of Bristol's books found no irregularities or missing money, the city manager said Monday. The audit was requested by city officials after a federal grand jury began investigating the city's Sheriff's Department earlier this year. Former Sheriff Marshall Honaker committed suicide in the midst of the investigation. He was never charged with any wrongdoing.
City Manager Paul Spangler said an audit of the treasurer's office and city offices found no problems. That audit is separate from a state audit of the Sheriff's Department.
Federal investigators allege Honaker skimmed nearly $380,000 from his department for his personal use.
