NARROWS, GALAX SCORE WINS
Narrows, seeded sixth in the tournament, knocked off third-seeded Fort Chiswell 70-67 in the first round of the Mountain Empire District boys' basketball tournament Wednesday.McCreary Mann led Narrows (10-9) with 18 points. The Green Wave will face Grayson County in the 8:15 p.m. semifinal on Friday at Christiansburg High. Fort Chiswell finished 14-5.
In the other Mountain Empire first-rounder:
\ Galax 63, Auburn 60: At Christiansburg, the Maroon Tide (14-7) took advantage of two Auburn turnovers in the final two minutes to score the game's final six points and score the first-round victory. Galax will meet Floyd County at 6:30 p.m. in the semifinals. \

\ Amherst County 51, Staunton River 49: At Rustburg, Charlie Johnson scored 16 points and the Lancers defeated the Cavaliers in the first round. Amherst (15-6) meets top seed Brookville in a Friday semifinal.
\ Nelson County 59, Staunton River 47: At Rustburg, Charles Johnson led four double-figure scorers with 17 points as the Governors ousted the Golden Eagles (11-10). In the opening semifinal tonight at Rustburg, Nelson County (12-9) meets second seed Brookville. \
