CAVS RETIRING STITH'S NUMBER

Senior forward Bryant Stith will become the sixth University of Virginia basketball player to have his number retired, coach Jeff Jones announced Wednesday.

Stith's No. 20 will be retired after the Cavaliers' game against North Carolina State on Tuesday at University Hall. The game begins at 9 p.m. and will be televised regionally by the Jefferson-Pilot/Raycom-ACC Network.

Stith, from Freeman, scored 17 points against Duke on Wednesday night to become UVa's all-time leading scorer with 2,322. Jeff Lamp scored 2,317 from 1978-81.

Other UVa numbers retired are Lamp's No. 3, Buzzy Wilkinson's No. 14, Barry Parkhill's No. 40, Wally Walker's No. 41 and Ralph Sampson's No. 50. - Staff report
