LOTTERY-DISCLOSURE BILL DELAYED A YEAR
A House of Delegates committee voted Wednesday to defer to next year a proposal to force the disclosure of mass purchases of lottery tickets and their purchasers. The General Laws Committee's action killed Del. George Grayson's bill for this legislative session. Grayson, D-Williamsburg, introduced the bill Tuesday as a response to the block purchase of an estimated $5 million in tickets for the record $27 million Lotto drawing Feb. 15.
Grayson had suggested that purchasers of $10,000 or more in lottery tickets be required to complete disclosure forms to be devised by the state Lottery Department.
A subcommittee recommended deferring the bill after a hearing Wednesday morning.
Lottery officials are considering regulations that would set limits on the mass purchase of tickets. The Lottery Board is scheduled to meet Monday.
