SOME PIPELINE WORK GETS COURT APPROVAL
The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday that Virginia Beach can proceed with construction on two small parts of the proposed 85-mile water pipeline from Lake Gaston. The pipeline is opposed by North Carolina officials, who argue that withdrawal of the water will harm the spawning of striped bass. The state also worries that its long-term water needs will take a backseat to Virginia Beach's.
The pipeline would bring 60 million gallons a day to Virginia Beach. - Associated Press
