CHRIST GAVE THANKS IN PUBLIC
JAMES D. Rieman (letter, Jan. 28) states that allowing prayer in public schools flies directly in the face of Christ's teachings. He refers to Matthew 6:5-6.In this text, Christ was referring to the religious sector, which consists of individuals who did like to make a show of prayer in public.
If Mr. Rieman's point is correct, and I beg to differ, Jesus Christ would be the biggest hypocrite of all; did he not (in Mark 6:41) give thanks in public before everyone else?
Look over the school systems and society since prayer has been taken out. Enough said? T. WAYNE HALE VINTON
