UNITED WAY NAMES LEADER FOR INTERIM
United Way of America named a senior vice president, Alan S. Cooper, as its acting president Friday, one day after the resignation of William Aramony.Aramony, 64, head of the nation's largest charity for 22 years, stepped down after allegations of mismanagement and extravagance that led to calls from local units in a number of cities for his resignation.
United Way of America, in a statement, said Aramony's resignation was effective Friday and Cooper was taking over temporarily.
The statement said Cooper will serve "until the executive committee has an opportunity to implement a transition management plan. We expect this plan to be put in place in the very near future."
