IN SERVICE

NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS LLOYD E. ERICKSON, son of Neva R. Erickson of 1905 Dale Ave., recently returned to Virginia Beach with Fighter Squadron 31 after a seven-month deployment to the Mediterranean and Red seas.

Erickson's squadron embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal in May, 1991, and participated in routine operations. The squadron also supported the Kurdish relief effort by taking part in more than 900 flights into northern Iraq providing tactical reconnaissance and combat air patrol.

Erickson is a 1986 graduate of Salem High School.

\ NAVY FIREMAN RECRUIT JERRY A. HUTCHINSON, son of Alfred J. and Linda G. Hutchinson of New Castle, recently reported for duty aboard the USS La Salle, based in Bahrain. Hutchinson is a 1990 graduate of Craig County High School.

\ NAVY FIREMAN RECRUIT MARC D. KELLY, son of Robert C. and Patricia L. Kelly of 307 Deaner Drive, recently returned to Norfolk aboard the USS Shenandoah.

Kelly was deployed for seven months with the USS Forrestal battle group in the Mediterranean and Red seas, participating in Operation Desert Storm, the Kurdish relief effort and other operations. Kelly is a 1989 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT CURTIS F. WISE, son of Franklin C. and Holly J. Wise of 1818 Springfield Ave., Salem, recently completed recruit training in Orlando, Fla.

\ PFC. TERRI T. BOYD, daughter of Edna W. and Herbert L. Boyd of 1709 Barnett Circle N.W., recently completed basic training at Fort Jackson, in Columbia, S.C. Boyd graduated from William Fleming High School in 1988.

\ WARRANT OFFICER PAUL C. DANIEL, son of Kermit E. and Helen L. Daniel of 3560 McFarland Road, was appointed to his present post after completing the rotary wing aviator course at Fort Rucker, in Daleville, Ala.

Daniel received the silver wings of an Army aviator upon completion of the course.

\ ARMY SPEC. STEPHEN A. GOODMAN, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Winston A. Leonard of 3323 Valentine Road S.W., has arrived for duty at Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks, Alaska.

Goodman, a flight operations specialist, is a 1987 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ NAVY AIRMAN APPRENTICE MICHAEL S. BELCHER, son of Willie M. and Judy M. Belcher of 2815 Crown Circle, Salem, has returned from a short-term deployment with Fighter Squadron 111, based at Naval Air Station Miramar, San Diego.
