GROGGINS WINS SCCA RACE FROM POLE

Flip Groggins led all the way Sunday to win the Sports Car Club of America GT-1 event at Road Atlanta.

Groggins qualified first in a 32-car field and led all 18 laps en route to a 58-second victory in the first even of the season.

On lap 3, Groggins came within four-tenths of a second of actor Paul Newman's lap record, which has stood for eight years. Groggins was timed in 1:25.3. Newman's record is 1:24.9. tag - Staff report
