BAND CONCERTS BOOST LOCAL ECONOMY

I CHASTISE Roanoke City Council for refusing to allow such bands as The Grateful Dead to appear in concert in the Roanoke Valley. Not only would such concerts be of great entertainment value to those who enjoy them, they would also boost the economy.

When most Roanokers think of The Grateful Dead concert in 1987, they can remember only the unpleasantness. They are quick to forget the almost $2 million in revenue generated for the local economy.

In the summer of 1991, a Grateful Dead concert was tentatively scheduled at Victory Stadium, but cancelled because the promoter could not satisfy City Council's parking concerns. What's wrong with shuttle buses? ANDREW TAYLOR SALEM
