WVVV will have a live remote from Macado's in Blacksburg on Tuesday; WKEX will have various luck o' the Irish quiz shows and prizes all day; and WPSK will have a live remote and St. Patrick's Day party from the Huckleberry Inn beginning at 9 p.m.
WFNR will begin monthly remote broadcasts from the New River Fairgrounds gymnasium on March 21 at 7 p.m. This month's performance is by the New River Valley Fiddle, Banjo and Dance Club.
WUVT begins its "Radiothon" fund-raiser March 23-29. A pledge for a tune will help keep the student-operated station going. One of the special programs during the fund-raiser is "Composers From Behind the Rusty Curtain" at 6-9 a.m. that Wednesday. It features composers from what was the Soviet Union and other Eastern Bloc countries. Call 231-9880 for details.
WVRU continues its broadcast of the 12-part series "Thinking About Drinking" Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. The half-hour documentaries explore America's No. 1 substance-abuse problem. The seventh segment, titled "Teach Your Children Well," discusses young people and alcohol.
A March 20 benefit concert sponsored by WFNR at the Christiansburg National Guard Armory that would help disc jockey Dandy Don's family has been postponed until further notice.
WVVV will have a remote at the New River Valley Mall today, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
WPSK will broadcast live from Pilot Homes in Christiansburg today, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
\ INTERNATIONAL: "Lakutshon Ilanga: Music Is a Healer" on WVRU Tuesday at 8 p.m. features South African music. Part 10 of this 13-part series is titled "The History of Capetown."
WVRU's "International Folk Music Hour" airs today, 2-3 p.m.
WUVT airs "New Music" weekdays, noon-9 p.m., and an "International Fest" today, 5-9 p.m., with reggae, ska, blues, dance and more.
\ NEWS PROGRAMS: WVRU's "Talk of the Town," which airs 8 p.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Friday, features a report on the Montgomery County Community Shelter.
"Speakers Corner" airs on WVRU Monday at 1 p.m. with anchorman Roger Mudd, who this week interviews Andre Previn, the Academy Award winning composer, arranger and conductor who recalls his years in Hollywood's waning age of the late '30s through the '60s.
WJJJ has Paul Harvey twice today, 8:30 a.m. and 12:10 p.m., with quips on events and people as well as news and comment.
\ ROCK: WVRU's "Long Live Rock," Monday at 9 p.m., continues a three-part series on Latin guitar legend Carlos Santana. The second part covers 1973-79.
