SMYTH COUNTY JOINS GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL

Smyth County will allow its high school juniors and seniors to attend the Southwest Virginia Governor's School for Science, Mathematics and Technology during the 1992-93 school year.

School officials agreed this week to gauge interest among students for attending the regional magnet school in Pulaski County after a presentation from the school's director, Pat Duncan, on what it can offer.

The School Board would cover transportation costs for students choosing to attend the half-day classes at the the Governor's School, based on the Pulaski County High School campus near Dublin.

Localities now sending students to the school are Pulaski, Wythe, Floyd, Giles, Bland, Carroll and Grayson counties and the city of Galax.
