AUTOPSY REVEALS DEATH BY STRANGLING

A man found dead in a wooden shack off Franklin Road on Sunday was strangled, Roanoke police said Tuesday.

The body of Ervin Henry Lawrence, 64, was found by another man who came looking for Lawrence after not having seen him for about two weeks.

Evidence of strangulation was found during an autopsy by the medical examiner's office, police said.

Ralph B. Nash told police that he found Lawrence on the floor covered with two coats and two blankets. Authorities said the shack is in an area where transients hang out near the railroad in the vicinity of Broadway.

Nash told police that Lawrence recently had fallen off a railroad trestle, breaking some ribs and injuring a lung. Lawrence had been treated at a hospital, police said.

Nash told police that Lawrence lived in the woods.
