WILDER SUPPORTED PARENTAL NOTICE

THE FRONT-page article March 16, "Parental notice bill not right to Wilder," is very depressing to pro-life citizens such as myself. Wilder stated during his campaign for governor that he would support and sign legislation affecting unmarried girls under 18 as long as a judicial-bypass clause was included.

Why did Wilder make this promise? Probably because he did not foresee so many Republican gains in Richmond last November. He did not dream a different committee would get the chance to vote in order to put the issue on the Senate floor.

Mr. Governor, you should keep your campaign promise and sign this relatively moderate control concerning abortion on demand. A very large majority of the state voters and, I am sure, non-voters favor such legislation.

Give this right back to the parents. They are responsible and have to sign for all other medical procedures. I know parents will be required to give shelter and pay medical and psychological bills following such a brutal procedure. PAUL C. GRAYBILL TROUTVILLE
