THE DRUG DEALERS ARE TAKING OVER

HERE IN Roanoke, as across the country, we are experiencing a drug crisis that affects everyone. Crack cocaine is destroying the youth of America at an alarming rate.

Here in the valley, some neighborhoods have been taken over by drug dealers. My heart goes out to the residents of these once-serene areas. Unfortunately, the solution is not getting the dealers out of a particular neighborhood (they will only go to another corner), but to get rid of them altogether. Easier said than done.

This is not just a black problem, even though it is often portrayed as one. Think about all the customers who are keeping so many dealers in business.

We must try to get our city back and get our youth going in a positive direction. RODNEY LEWIS ROANOKE
