Coca-Cola Bottling Co.Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated, Charlotte, N.C., parent of Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Roanoke, on Monday reported a net loss of $118.3 million for 1992, due to mandatory adoption of new accounting standards for retiree health benefits and income taxes. Excluding the non-cash accounting charges, the company lost $2 million after preferred dividends in 1992, compared to net income of $2.2 million in 1991. The loss equaled $12.89 per share, compared with a 24-cent per share gain a year earlier. Sales for the year were $655.8 million, up 41 percent over $464.7 million in 1991.
For the fourth quarter, the company reported an approximate break-even after preferred dividends.
Hechinger
Hechinger Co., Landover, Md. operator of home center stores, on Monday reported fourth-quarter net earnings of $2.8 million, or 7 cents per share, compared to a net loss of $1.5 million, 4 cents per share, last year. Sales for the quarter were $415.8 million, up 16 percent from $357.7 million last year.
For the year, before a $57.3 million after-tax strategic reserve, net earnings were $31.0 million, or 74 cents per share, up 19 percent from $26.1 million, or 66 cents per share, in fiscal 1991. Sales for the year rose 16 percent to $1.87 billion from $1.61 billion.
