Junior Achievement honors 2 contractorsJunior Achievement of Southwest Virginia on Monday announced plans to honor two former Roanoke Valley business leaders by naming them to its Southwest Virginia Business Hall of Fame. To be cited for their business and community achievements are:
Horace G. Fralin, who died in January. He was the co-founder and president of Fralin & Waldron Inc., a real estate developer and contractor and operator of nursing homes. He was a member of the Board of Visitors at Virginia Tech, a trustee at Roanoke College and received the Community Service Award of the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce.
S. Lewis Lionberger, founder and retired principal of Lionberger Construction. He was the founder of Security National Bank, which ultimately became Crestar. He worked with Roanoke's Redevelopment and Housing Authority for 29 years and was chairman of the board of United Virginia Bank.
John Dancy, chief diplomatic correspondent for NBC News, will speak at the awards ceremony scheduled for 6 p.m. March 30 at the Roanoke Airport Marriott hotel. - Staff report

\ Virginia First Savings Bank, a Petersburg-based thrift with offices in the Roanoke Valley, said its stock has been approved for listing on the NASDAQ National Market System. The trading symbol will be VFSB. Virginia First Savings Bank operates 23 retail offices and 13 loan-production facilities in Virginia and Maryland.
\ Wintergreen Resort in Nelson County on Monday announced plans for a $3.2 million renovation of its Mountain Inn and Blackrock Village Center facilities. The six-month project, to begin March 15, will include a new entry and lobby for the hotel and facilities for children.
\ Patrick Enterprises Inc., a Pembroke, Va., maker of machined, fabricated and welded products for industry, has received an A-level assessment rating from Volvo-GM Heavy Truck Corp. in its program to set quality standards.
\ McNeil PAVE Maintenance, a Boones Mill commercial parking lot and airport runway repair contractor, has dropped the word McNeil from its name and will trade as PAVE Maintenance. The company has expanded its territory to include Charlottesville and Nelson and Albemarle counties.
\ Branch Highways Inc. of Roanoke has been awarded a $1.7 million contract to build a new landfill for Georgia-Pacific Corp. at Big Island. Branch also has received a contract valued at $184,288 from Blue Ridge Stone Corp. for erosion and sediment controls and an access road at its Mount Athos quarry east of Lynchburg. Branch Highways is a subsidiary of the Branch Group Inc. of Roanoke and Richmond.
