NEW `CINDERELLA' STAGED AT COLLEGE
A new adaptation of "Cinderella" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday on the Grayson Commons stage at Wytheville Community College.Additional performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on March 13 and at 3 p.m. on March 14. Admission is $2.50 ($1.50 for senior citizens and students).
Each weekend will feature a different cast, said director Janice Scudder.
"We had so many talented and enthusiastic children to try out," she said. "We wanted to use them all, so - two casts . . . It means double the rehearsals, but twice the fun."
This version of the popular fairy tale has some new twists, said Scudder, who adapted it.
For instance, Cinderella has three wicked stepsisters instead of the usual two, Scudder said. And Cinderella's fairy godmother has an assistant - a modern girl who has not quite mastered all the magic spells.
Instead of the animals who helped Cinderella in the Walt Disney movie version, assistance comes this time from an array of flowers and a cactus.
The show is performed by children and written for them, Scudder said. It lasts for about an hour.
The cast this weekend includes Mary Beth Colville, Holly Montgomery, Shery Stroupe, Amanda Singleton, Anna McAlpine, Jared Bowers, Jenni Montgomery, Hilary Hollandsworth,Jenny Elander, Cate Elander, Melissa Bowers, Trista Wilkins, Jonathan Walters, Benjamin Hester, Karla Udell, Zachary Hester, Mandy Montgomery, Merrily Copenhaver, Samantha Montgomery, Jonathan Dillman, Amanda Murray, Stephanie Hollandsworth,Carolyn Gardner and Caitlin Bailey.
The March 13-14 cast will include Hillary Sparrow, Leslie Walters, Lindsey Murphy, Jeanetta Walters, Jessica Graca, Jared Bowers, Kimberly Brodie, Anna Walters, Lauren Horney, Kendra Paisley, Danelle Collins, Amanda Strickland, Aaron Wright, Brian Brodie, Kelly Carpenter, Courtney Hamm, Angie Ryan, Carrie Meadows, Stephanie Horney, Shane Terry, Jessica Arnold, Donna Davis, Cristy Collins and Tasha Stroupe.
