FOREST TO SHOW LAND PLAN TO PUBLIC
The George Washington National Forest plans a week of open meetings this month to provide more information to the public about its new land and resource management plan.Among the six meetings are three scheduled for Hot Springs on March 8, Covington on March 9 and Buena Vista on March 11.
The Forest Service has also established a toll-free number, (800) 851-5960, for people who have questions about the plan. The hot line is available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The plan is the Forest Service's guide for the 1.1-million-acre national forest over the next 10 to 15 years.
Copies of the plan are available for review in public libraries in Harrisonburg, Buena Vista, Charlottesville, Clifton Forge, Lexington, Lynchburg, Staunton, Warm Springs, Waynesboro and Franklin, W.Va.
The meetings are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will be held at local ranger district offices.
